Nurture Connection with Nature

Take time to notice how the natural world engages you.

We are deeply interconnected with the natural world, yet we often forget to notice. This guide sparks curiosity and invites you to approach the more-than-human community with wonder and gratitude. As you work with this guide, make sure to take time for walks or simply sit outside, immersing yourself in the vibrant life that surrounds you.

1. Let yourself be drawn to a being in nature - tree, rock, plant, bird…  Write a love letter to that being telling it about what it is like to be near it.

Let yourself be captivated by something; notice how good it feels to just pay attention.

2. Take time to enjoy a piece of fruit. Then, write about all the aspects of the natural world that took part in the growth of that piece of fruit: sun, rain, roots, soil, etc.

Even on days we stay indoors completely we are intimately linked with the natural world.

3. Think about the season you are currently in and the changes in the world around you. How are those changes also mirrored inside of you?

We each have internal seasons and shifts, sometimes in tune with or inspired by changes in the weather.

4. Was there a time in your life when you felt most connected to the natural world? What was that like for you?

What does time in nature open up for you? How does it change you?

5. Find yourself a tree friend who you can visit a few times. Linger with this tree, perhaps sit under its branches. Write from the perspective of the tree to you. What wisdom does it have for you?

Listen to the quiet communication of a more-than-human being. Open your imagination.
