Solving Frustrations - Three Pillars

Three Sources Worth Examining

The Three Pillars—Expectations, Relationships, Balance: They are the source of almost all frustrations when you're unaware of their shadows. Clear expectations, understanding relationship-based emotions, and maintaining a balance of your strengths, prevent misunderstandings and promote growth.

1. Reflect on a recent disappointment or frustration you experienced.

What unmet expectation(s) contributed to that disappointment? Whose expectations were they - yours or someone else's? How can you get better at communicating and managing expectations going forward?

2. Think about an important relationship in your life - with a person, object, or concept.

What is the core emotion(s) at the heart of that relationship, and where did it come from? How do those emotions influence your behavior and mindset regarding that relationship?

3. Identify one of your key strengths or attributes

When has that strength become unbalanced or over-applied, resulting in unintended negative consequences? How can you cultivate more balance with that attribute?

4. Look back on a frustration or conflict you've had recently.

How did mismatched expectations, unproductive relationship dynamics, or imbalance contribute to the situation? Where can you start to improve one of those pillars and manage your frustration?

5. Think about a specific area of your life where you want to make positive changes going forward.

How can you proactively manage expectations, nurture key relationships, and maintain a balanced approach to facilitate that growth?
